In this series I am confronting the emotions of being lost and belonging. Being present, yet invisible. Finding that your voice in a void still has meaning. By choosing the perspective of Extra Terrestrials and the Supernatural as my subjects, I am able to tell our story on this lonely and glorious earth. Earthlings are lightseekers. I always want to celebrate how rare all of this is, including being alive to make Art about it.

Midnight Garden Art Statement
Flowers are not just pretty, they tell stories and they create community. They reveal time; time of year, time of day, and time of life, and they reveal location. I love the small secrets that are hidden in the Midnight Garden works. The sweet spiky seed pods of a castor bean are actually where the poison ricin comes from. Moonflowers that remain quiet and secret all day, exploding with color and scent every evening. Cannas that are divided and shared from yard to yard as they invade with their bold beauty. I paint the flowers that grow in my yard, some I’ve planted myself, some have been gifted from friends that I then propagate and gift to others, some have even been secretly smuggled from across the Atlantic (thanks for Giverny Monet!). Many of these works were done in collaboration with photographer Slater Mapp for a series called Tarot Garden. Photography and paintings were shared back and forth to create an otherworldly and allegorical narrative combining the self-reflection of Tarot with the mystery of a night garden.

I am an artist who uses digital photography as a basis to explore themes of belief, and to challenge notions of how photography can be viewed. For the last three years I have been working on three major figurative projects called "American Goddess," "Tarot Garden," and "Aliens Amongst Us:" All the work started as a reaction against the ubiquitous nature of digital photography and to the tendency to consume images too quickly. As part of my practice I collaborate with visual artists like Trish Klenow and Be Boggs.
1. "American Goddess" explores the idea of how Greek Mythology continues to influence how folks view themselves, how they are seen, and how they behave.
2."Tarot Garden " asks the viewer to reflect about our own lives, and explore the idea of how our anxiety about the present can compel us to use rituals to attempt to control or predict the future.
3."Aliens Amongst Us" is an exploration of Sci-Fi tropes as a metaphor for how people can be viewed as alien or for how they can feel alienated.
